Stop! Is it a scam? Keep by the phone
It's probably a scam if they:
- Say you must act right now
- Want payment by gift card, wire, crypto, cash, or a courier
- Say they're from the government, Medicare, your bank, or tech support
- Say a grandchild or relative is in trouble
- Ask for a code sent to your phone, or to connect to your computer
- Tell you to keep it secret or lie
- Want your Social Security, Medicare, or bank numbers
What to do:
- Hang up or close it. Don't click links.
- Call back using a number you trust (back of your card, your statement, the official website).
- Talk to someone you trust before you pay.
